Relic ride to return


Look in the back of your garages and barns and get ready to fire up those relics. Just over 300 vintage 1973 and older sleds hit the trails in an attempt to complete the 40 mile ride in 2013. Another 200 newer sleds also participated. This year’s ride takes place on Feb. 8.

Pioneer Tribune photos MANISTIQUE – The Long Riders 22nd Annual Charity Relic Ride is scheduled for Feb. 8.

The event will start at the Jack Pine Lodge, located on Highway M-94, 20 miles north of Manistique.

Registration will be held from 8-10 a.m. The cost is $5.

Breakfast will be available from the restaurant at that time.

Sled judging will take place at 10 a.m. Prizes will be announced for registered relics that are 1973 or older.

The categories will include: a loud pipe contest, best of show, best antique 1968 or older, most unique and worst of show.

The ride is scheduled to leave Jack Pine at 11 a.m. They will travel to D&D Resort in Steuben, then head to the Boat Lake Bar, where lunch will be available.

All snowmobiles, regardless of age, are welcome to participate in the ride along.

In 2012, 587 sleds participated. Of that total, 301 were vintage.

All 1973 and older sleds “only” will not require a Michigan registration or trail permit for the one day event.

As in prior years, proceeds from the registration and raffles will be donated to a local charity.
