Cleo Bowers

MANISTIQUE – Cleo “Spike” Bowers, 70, of 330 Schoolcraft Ave., Manistique, Mich., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Mich.

He was born Nov. 23, 1943, in Leadville, Colo., the son of Don and Hazel (West) Bowers and was raised and went to school in Royal Oak, Mich.

He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s.

Spike was employed as a fire officer by the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources. He lived and worked for many years in the Mio, Mich., area and was transferred to Manistique in 1986.

On Jan. 17, 1993, he married the former Hope A. Bishop and they made their home in Germfask. She preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 1997.

Spike is survived by his son, Don (Jennifer) Bowers of Manistique; daughters, Renee (David) Schattilly of Midland, Mich., and Sandra Johnson of Cudahy, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers; and two sisters.

Per Spike’s request, there will be no services.
