Clare E. Peterson
ROCKWOOD, Tenn. – Mr. Clare Ellis “Pete” Peterson, 81, of Rockwood, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Methodist Medical Center in Harriman, Tenn.
Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was a machinist at Chase Glass. He enjoyed woodworking, including making his own sawmill, building a house from logs cut on the property, and making furniture.
Pete was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Wanona Peterson; brothers, Charles Peterson and Thurlough Peterson.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Peterson of Rockwood; children, Duane (Betty) Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., Rick Smith of Rockwood; grandchildren, Brandon Smith of Rockwood, Jessica Smith of Knoxville; sisters, Connie (Ed) Gratz of Milwaukee, Wis., Jill (Matt) Hillis of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Joe (Sherry) Krause of Manistique, Mich., Lynn (Joan) Peterson Hendale, Ill.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Family and friend will meet in the chapel for the “Celebration of Life” Service. Interment and concluding services will be held at a later date by the family.
