“Making Right Choices”, Dick Kendall’s presentation at the high school student body has been rescheduled to the auditorium beginning at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. Kendall lost his son in an accident where the driver was under the influence of alcohol. This personal, victim’s impact testimonial is open to the public.

Winterfest week begins at MHS on Feb. 3 and culminates Feb.7 with a full schedule of girls’ and boys’ basketball games. Wall decorating themes: seniors – Disney; juniors – Sci-Fi/superheroes; sophomores – romance; and freshmen – western. Activities during the week: Monday-wall decorating and western movies; Tuesday-coed dodge ball and Sci-Fi superheroes; Wednesday-wall decorating and Disney cartoons; Thursday-wall decorating and romance/dress to impress; and Friday-green and white day, wall judging, pep assembly, and coronation.

Basketball games on Feb. 7: At Emerald – freshmen boys at 6 p.m.; JV girls at 7:30 p.m. At the high school gym – JV boys at 4:30 p.m., varsity girls at 6 p.m., and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.

Only two Saturday sessions left to take practice tests and review for the ACT: Feb. 8 and Feb. 22. Students can come to the High School Computer Lab from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Free online practice test are also available at www.actstudent.org. Students that do not have computer access at home can also pick up a paper copy of the ACT test prep guide from Mr. Rochon. Test dates for the Michigan Merit/ACT are March 4, 5, 6,

Students in the Arts display and Middle School Drama Club performance of “School Daze” will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Art projects from Mrs. Mulligan’s Art 1 and Art 2 students will be on display in the Manistique School and Public Library. The Middle School Drama students will take to the stage at 7 p.m. that evening. You don’t want to miss this one-time presentation of a comedy about the crazy things that happen when a substitute teacher comes into the room!

Scholarships currently available and their deadlines: MEA Scholarships for seniors due by Feb. 28. Buick Achievers scholarships for students pursuing a degree in engineering/technology or select design and business related programs due by Feb. 28. Lions Club International Scholarship for students who have a learning and/ or physical disability and cumulative GPA of C (3.0) or better is due by April 15.
