SnoFest set for Feb. 22

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Recreation Board has announced the schedule of events for the annual SnoFest. The full slate of family-oriented fun is set to take place on Feb. 22 at Central Park.

Saturday’s events will begin with the Schoolcraft County Walk for Warmth fundraiser. Registration will begin at 1.m. at the Manistique Senior Center on Main Street. Coffee and donuts will be provided. The walk will start at 9 a.m. and leave from the center.

The Frosty 5K Run/Walk, is open to participants of all ages. Registration will get underway in Little Bear West Arena parking lot at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $15. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and will be followed by an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. A registration form is available on page 7A of this week’s Pioneer Tribune.

Jiggers derby will also start at 9 a.m. in the parking lot. Fishing takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The tournament is for children 16 and under. Prizes will be awarded.

Holes will be pre-drilled by city Department of Public Works staff and can be purchased for $5 each. There will be a limit of three holes per participant.

Among the new events being planned is a “cardboard classic” sled race. Registration will be at 1 p.m., with judging at 1:30 p.m. Racing will take place at 2 p.m. at Central Park sledding hill.

“Rock ’n Roll Skate” will take place from 6-9 p.m. at Little Bear West Area. All ages are welcome to participate. Admission is $5 per person.
