Shirley A. Chartier

MANISTIQUE – Shirley A. Chartier, 85, of Manistique, Mich., passed away peacefully with family and friends on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at the home of her sister-inlaw, Liz Chartier.

She was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Iron River, Mich., the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Vandervest) Liberty and spent her early years there. She was a graduate of Norway High School in Norway, Mich.

On Jan. 10, 1958, the former Shirley A. Liberty married Lewellyn G. Chartier in Menominee, Mich. They lived and worked in Madison, Wis., for many years and moved to Manistique in 1992 following their retirements. Lew preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2012.

Shirley was employed in the purchasing department at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and crocheting.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Thomas Burke of Shawano, Wis. and Michael Manderfield of Atlantic Mine, Mich.; along with her and Lew’s extended families.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.
