Open for business
Morden, along with her husband, Mike, recently opened Westside Home Furnishings and Appliance on Deer Street in Manistique, the former location of Ace Hardware.
“It’s been in and out of the works for the last four years,” said Morden. “I knew starting a new business would be involved and would take a lot of work, I just never realized most of the work would be getting companies to return phone calls.
I spent hours on the computer and phone between emails and calls trying to find the right individuals to talk to,” she added.
Morden and her crew spent last fall transforming the interior of the building from its former hardware business into a 6,000 square foot furniture showroom. The portion of Ace which housed RadioShack now showcases their large assortment of appliances from Samsung, G.E. and Frigidaire.
That portion of the operation opened before Christmas.
Recently, they received their first shipment of furniture and bedding, with additions arriving daily.
Morden stated they currently carry lines from Lane, Klaussner and Liberty. They also proudly carry Restonic bedding, which is made in the Upper Peninsula.
They have a limited supply of assessor pieces in stock, but as they secure additional vendors, Morden explained lamps and home décor will be available to compliment new furniture.
Westside Home Furnishing and Appliance is located at 226 Deer St. They are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
They can be reached at (906) 286-4400.
