Area arts receive grants

Mini-grants will help local cultural events

ESCANABA – The CUPPAD Regional Commission and the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, recently awarded eleven non-profit organizations in the Central U.P. $28,960 for support of community art programs in 2014. Local groups receiving Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Art Minigrants are:

Players de Noc, Inc./Missoula Children’s Theater: A week long, free summer enrichment program to be held on June 9-14. The touring group will involve 60-70 local youth, grades K-12 in all aspects of a musical production that culminates in two performances in the theater. The organization will receive a grant award of $3,529.

Manistique Area Schools (YETI)/Music in Manistique 2014: Concert series, concert workshop series, community band/ choral promoter, and new band incubator. Primary focus will be 10 to 12 concerts at the Manistique Band Shell. The organization will receive a grant award of $3,500.

Manistique Area Kiwanis/ Missoula Children’s Theatre: Opportunity for students to work with two professional actors for a one-week residency culminating in an on stage musical theater performance. The organization will receive a grant award of $1,900.
