Submitted photo Saturday morning, Jan. 18, fifteen juniors arrived to participate in the MME/ACT test prep session! Students can come to the high school computer lab and take practice tests to review for the ACT. Three Saturday sessions remain: Jan. 25, Feb. 8, and Feb. 22. The lab is available from 9-11 a.m. Free on line tests are available at www.actstudent.org as well. Students can click on “Practice Test Questions” on the left side of the screen. Students can also pick up a paper copy of the ACT test prep guide from Mr. Rochon in the Guidance Office. The MME/ACT will be given on March 4-6.

Students in the Arts will take place Feb. 12. Mrs. Mulligan’s Art 1 and Art 2 students will display their works in the library. Music selections will be provided by students. The Middle School Drama Club will perform “School Daze” that evening in the auditorium. Mark your calendar now for an evening of fine arts.

“Making Right Choices”, with presenter Dick Kendall, will take place for the high school student body at 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 28. Kendall lost his son in an accident where the driver was under the influence of alcohol. This personal victim’s impact testimonial is also open to the public.

Friday, Jan. 24, at the home boys’ basketball games, Manistique High School will hold “Sprite Night”. Two lucky people will take a shot from half court. If they make it, they win a bottle of Sprite every day for a year! Even if they miss, they win cool “Sprite” prizes. Spread the word, and sign up Friday night during the JV game!

The Manistique High School Glee Club will hold their 2014 performances on March 15 and 16 in the auditorium. You will not want to miss this annual event!

A recent visitor to the Little Explorers Preschool at Emerald Elementary was Tori Irving. Irving works for the DNR in the Forestry Department. She was in class to teach the children about trees as habitats. Irving’s daughter, Adeline, attends the Little Explorers Preschool.

Preparations are underway for the second and third grade music program scheduled for Feb. 24 in the auditorium. Under the direction of Christi Ryan, students will take the stage at 5:30 p.m.

Youth Wrestling got underway on Monday, Jan. 20. The program is open to students in grades 1-8, and meets each Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. in the wrestling room in the central administration building.

Saturday, Jan. 25, Manistique will host the Division 4 Super Duals beginning at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. Newberry, Norway, Westwood, Negaunee, Gwinn, Rudyard, and Bark River-Harris will arrive for the second annual Round Robin Tournament. Come out and enjoy a day of high school wrestling, and support your Emerald Matmen!

Jan. 31: YETI Key Club Fun Night in the MHS from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Feb. 6: Title I Family Game Night at Emerald Elementary cafeteria from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Feb. 8: Battle of the Bands in the high school gym from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Class of 2014 event)
