Emeralds cheer squad to host competition

MANISTIQUE – The Emerald varsity competitive cheer squad will host the annual Emerald Cheer Invitational in the Richard Bonifas Gymnasium on Jan. 14.

Teams throughout Upper Michigan and Northern Lower Michigan have competed in previous years.

Competition is set to begin at 6 p.m.

Carney-Nadeau plans annual tournament

CARNEY-NADEAU – The 29th Annual Carney-Nadeau Invitational Basketball Tournament will be held on Jan. 18 and 19 at the Carney-Nadeau High School Gym.

The tournament will include four men’s classes B, C, D and E – placement in class B and C will be determined by a first round game. The winner will go to B (then double elimination) and the loser will go to C (single elimination). Classes D and E will be determined by a first round game with the winner going to D and the loser to E. There will then be a single elimination tournament in each.

MHSAA rules apply, except for there will be a five minute halftime; 25-point rule with four minutes left; and games will be a 20-minute running clock, except for the last two minutes of the first half and last three minutes of the second half.

The entry fee is $90 and should be sent with a roster to Paul Polfus, Box 55, Carney, MI 49812.
