New Miss Schoolcraft after previous winner removed

Amber Smith Amber Smith MANISTIQUE – The Miss Schoolcraft County elected last year has been removed from the position, according to fair officials. Following an emergency meeting of the Schoolcraft County Fair Board, the reigning Kaila Slater was stripped of the crown for failure to fulfill duties listed in the pageant guidelines.

The meeting, held on Jan. 1, ended with a unanimous vote to take the action. Board members then decided to offer first runner up, Amber Smith, the title. Smith accepted the offer, along with the responsibilities that come with the crown, at 3 p.m. that day.

Smith is set to begin her duties with a visit to the Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility and continue with other area wide events, including an appearance in the upcoming CBC Telethon.

Smith is a junior at Manistique High School and has served as Miss Schoolcraft County once before.
