Donna J. Gunderman
Donna was born on July 2, 1945, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Ernie and Gustie Preuss and she lived in Spring Lake and then Manistique, Mich. She graduated from Manistique High School with the Class of 1963 and in 1966, from Western Michigan University with degrees in social work and sociology.
She married Wayne Gunderman on Sept. 2, 1967 and became the mother of Elizabeth Anne (Scott Miller), Laura Lee and Ronald Ernest (Judy Jacobs), all of whom survive her.
Donna was a beautiful person. For those of us who really knew Donna, the essence of her gentle beauty was in her heart, her love for family, friends, animals and life. She was always so very caring and sensitive to the feelings and circumstances of others, particularly the disabled, persons unfairly treated and animals large and small.
She was also grandma to Landen, Jonah and Emma Jane who (unfortunately) were never fully able to experience her joyful, caring nature because of Alzheimer’s disease. Donna is also survived by her sister, Nancy (Bill) Cheney; and nieces Deborah Lynn Captain and Marsha Ann (Dave) Matthews.
We’ll always miss you Donna J, but we were so very blessed to have had you with us.
A celebration of Donna was held on Dec. 10 in Alpena.
Any donations in her name should be made to the Alpena Huron Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
