Dwain H. Valiquette
He was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Garden, the son of John and Cecilia
Cota) Valiquette and attended schools in Garden and Escanaba, Mich.
As a young boy he worked in the woods with his dad. He later served with the Michigan National Guard - 107th Engineers in Gladstone, Mich. and worked at Harnischfeger in Escanaba. He created Bay de Noc Oil Company and operated several Gulf gas stations in the area. He later worked as an auto salesman at Riverside Auto in Escanaba and retired from there.
On April 27, 1988, he married the former Patricia Eagle in Inverness, Fla., and they spent their winters there.
Dwain always had a love for cars. He owned and sponsored several modified race cars with his brothers and cousins as the drivers. He loved to bowl and also play pool, cards, and dart ball. He enjoyed dancing, four wheeling and snowmobiling too. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his loving family, grandchildren and great-grandson, Parker.
He loved to watch wild life and feed the deer and turkeys. He loved picking apples, eating apple pie, riding around his property on his golf cart trimming trees, watching the birds and doing word search puzzles.
Dwain always loved his little piece of heaven in Garden.
Dwain is survived by his wife, Patricia Valiquette of Garden; children, Rhonda Valiquette of Lynnwood, Wash., Jeffrey Valiquette of Garden, Dana Valiquette of Seattle, Wash., Julie (John) Gudwer of Rapid River, Mich., Gregory Valiquette of Perkins,
Mich., Marijo Shonubi of Kent, Wash., and Luann (John) Schneider of Issaquah, Wash.; stepsons, Nick Broeders of Cornell, Mich., Mike Broeders of Brampton, Mich., and Andy (Amy) Broeders of Brampton; grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Adam and Paige

Gudwer, Zachery Schneider, Jaylene (Zachary) Mark, Erica and Rochelle Broeders, and Kyle, Kevin, Katie and Kristin Broeders; greatgrandson, Parker Valiquette, and one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Verna (Ronald) Jaeger of Gladstone, Mich.; brothers, Marvin (Ethel) Valiquette of Hyde, Mich., John “Jake” (Susan) Valiquette of Escanaba, Darryl Valiquette of Thailand, Kerry “Joe” (Patricia) Valiquette of Escanaba, Keith Valiquette of Madison, Wis., Orvis (Joanne) Valiquette of Gladstone and Richard (Toni) Valiquette of Gladstone; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Irene Eagle of Rapid River.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Oja; brothers, Ronald, Harland and James Valiquette; sister, Mary Valiquette; and his son-in-law, Abolaji Shonubi.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Messier Broullire Funeral Home in Garden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, with Father Brian Gerber officiating. Burial will follow in the New Garden Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. John’s Hall.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the medical staff of the OSF Dialysis Center in Escanaba for the wonderful care given to Dwain.
