A local tie



The late Harold D. Beaton of Manistique, along with his daughter, Barbara, poses with then-presidential candidate Sen. John F. Kennedy at his senate office in Washington D.C. in the fall of 1960. Beaton was, at that time, legal counsel and legislative assistant to Sen.Patrick V. McNamara of Michigan, and was asked to have this picture taken to help promote Kennedy’s campaign for president in Michigan. This week marked the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination. He was shot to death on Nov. 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.
