MANISTIQUE – Limestone Federal Credit Union has been presented with the 2013 “Excellence in Mortgage Lending Award” by CUNA Mutual Group and the CUNA Lending Council. Limestone Federal was the category winner for credit unions with less than $250 million in assets.

The Excellence in Lending Awards, established by the CUNA Lending Council in 2000, identifies and shares examples of lending excellence within the credit union movement by recognizing individual credit unions for their ability to serve members while sustaining sound financial performance.

Limestone Federal was recognized for its efforts in mortgage lending. The award is one of the lending awards given each year to recognize credit unions that implement outstanding lending programs. The award was presented by Dan Murray, vice president of lending for CUNA Mutual Group, at the annual Cuna Lending Council Conference held in Phoenix, Ariz.

“This award is a testament to the collective work of the board of directors, committee members, and staff,” said Jennifer Watson, CEO. They have continually worked to provide products and services that meet the needs of our growing membership, expanding our mortgage program to include a 10 year fixed rate product allows our members to keep their business local while accelerating the payoff on their mortgage.”

“Through education and personal service we have worked hard to implement products and services that assist our members in becoming financially independent,” she added. “We have had great success over the past two years with our lending products, posting a 20 percent increase in loans in 2012 and eight percent year to date in 2013. We are very proud of our staff for their hard work; this award is confirmation of the topnotch team we have built. We are flattered to be chosen for this prestigious award and were proud to represent the Credit Union at the national conference.”

Limestone Federal Credit Union, organized in 1955 to serve employees of Inland Lime and Stone, has grown to $39 million dollars in assets. Today, LFCU serves residents of Schoolcraft, Luce, Mackinac, Delta, and Alger Counties. The Credit Union has consistently outperformed their peer group in financial performance, ranking in the top 10 of Michigan Credit Unions and in the 95th percentile nationally for key financial metrics.

“It is an honor for the staff of Limestone Federal Credit Union to receive a National Lending Award,” said Amy Gould, lending manager. I am proud to be part of such a tight knit group of people who work so hard for the members of our community to carry out the credit union philosophy of people helping people.”
