Senior Center News

Frank Sweeny and The Front Yard Gang will be the entertainment for this month’s potluck, which is scheduled for Nov. 21. If you have never been to the Senior Center it is located at 101 Main St. Entertainment will begin at 4 p.m. and dinner will follow at approximately 5 p.m.

MDS Community Action Agency, who leases the kitchen from the Center, will be doing their third evening meal. Why not join them on Nov. 25, at 5 p.m. for a lasagna dinner. All you need to do is call 341-5085 a day in advance to register. They have had 30 plus in attendance for the first two, which is a real nice turn out. Keep in mind the evening meal will always be held the last Monday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

Amy Sundling dropped by the Center with a military address of her son I would like to share with you:

A1C Andrew Sundling

2334 Central Avenue

Andrew will be receiving a package from the Center. We sincerely wish to thank those who have dropped by with goodies or have given toward the mailings. Our plans are to continue sending packages year around and not only during the holidays.

If you are unsure of what can be mailed, drop by and we will share our list with you.

Many of you who come to the Center know Perry Wise is going through some health issues and is taking treatments. If you would like to send him a card his address is:

Some of you are getting ready to head south for the winter and have patiently waited for me to get the dates of our 2014 overnight Kewadin St. Ignace/Hessel/Sault bus trips.

The first trip will be Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 and 22, and the second trip will also be Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 10 and 11. I will pass along to you the cost and details as soon as I receive them. Don’t forget to save these dates.

Northern Michigan Hearing Clinic will be at the Center to provide “free” hearing tests on Nov. 21. Call (800) 637-7816 for an appointment. If you need batteries, at $2 per package, drop by the office Monday through Friday between 8-4 p.m.

Have you bought your tickets yet? The Senior Center Annual Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 12 with social hour beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9 per person for the first 90 purchasers. Entertainment this year will be Darryl Dixon. You will once again have the option of exchanging a $5 gift and/or having your picture taken with Santa.

Are you looking to volunteer? The Senior Companion Program is looking for help. You would be providing companionship and assistance easing the loneliness, along with providing access to the community, including grocery shopping and transportation to medical appointments.

Prior to receiving their assignments companions receive 40 hours of training and attend regular monthly in-service training. Companions are paid a non-taxable stipend and transportation reimbursement. If you are interested in this program, contact Connie Maule at (800) 562- 9131. This program is housed out of MDS Community Action Agency located in Delta County.
