The Manistique Emeralds dropped a 26-19 decision to the Harbor Springs Rams on the road last Friday. With the loss, Manistique finishes the 2013 campaign 1-8. While most judge success by a team’s final record, five of the Emeralds’ losses were by seven points or less. Additionally, behind solid play on both sides of the ball, six Emerald players earned conference honors for their efforts on the grid iron – two of which were named to the All Mid-Peninsula Conference Football First Team. Earning First Team selections were: Emerald wide receiver, Cole Potvin and punter, Tyler Kangas. In addition to the two first honorees, center, Nick Knudson; guard, Chris Shiner; outside linebacker, Clarence Brock and inside linebacker, Mike Brock received “Honorable Mention” awards. Kangas also earned “Honorable Mention” as quarterback. Kangas finished the year with 103 of 183 for 1,159 yards in the air. Potvin accounted for 623 of those yards, including eight TDs.
