Donald J. Bellville Donald J. Bellville MANISTIQUE – Donald J. Bellville, 72, of 514 Delta Ave., Manistique, Mich., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique, where he had resided for the past three years.

He was born Feb. 25, 1941, in Manistique, the son of William J. and Marjorie A. (Arnold) Belleville. He attended St. Francis de Sales School and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in California. His unit spent time constructing the venues for the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.

Following honorable discharge from the military in 1962, he was employed as a cook with his uncle in San Diego, Calif. He returned to Manistique in 1965 to accept employment with the City of Manistique as a fireman. He then attended the Police Academy in Lansing, Mich., graduating in 1966. Don spent 32 years with the Manistique Public Safety Department as a fireman, police officer, ambulance driver, and as an EMT. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in 1976. After retiring from the city, he worked as a Department of Corrections Diversional Officer and as a deputy for the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.

On Oct. 7, 1967, Don married the former Susan M. Bosanic at the First Baptist Church in Manistique. They recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. They made their home and raised their two children, Scott and Julie, in Manistique.

Don was a member of the Manistique Elks Lodge No. 632, Indian Lake Golf and Country Club, American Legion Post No. 83, and was a life member of Fraternal Order of Police Paul Bunyan Lodge No. 146.

Over the years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, fishing, hunting and spending time as his hunting camp. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan. He was especially fond of being a grandpa and was a kind-hearted person who was well liked by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Susan Bellville of Manistique; two children, Scott Bellville of Manistique and Julie (Rodney) Bricker of Gladstone, Mich.; three grandchildren, Nathan, Kalley and Donald “DJ”; sister, Mary Burns of Manistique; brother, Jerry (Vicki) Belleville of Waupun, Wis.; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William V. Bellville.

Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the First Baptist Church in Manistique. Funeral services followed at 5 p.m., Wednesday, at the church with Rev. Dr. Jay Martin officiating. Graveside services with veteran honors followed at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique. A luncheon was served at First Baptist Church following the services.
