Senior Center News

Don’t forget to get out and vote on Nov. 5. There are two very important issues on the ballot for our area. Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility will be asking for your support, along with Public Transit. Free rides, within the city limits, to and from the polls are given by calling 341-2111.

The Senior Center has invited Jeani Dalgord to be a guest speaker on Nov. 7. She will be giving a brief presentation, which will begin at noon, on Medicare benefits, Medicare Part D plans, Medicare Advantage plans and any other issues or questions related to people on Medicare. Open enrollment for Medicare Part D began on Oct. 15, and will continue through Dec. 7, 2013. This will give you time to review the changes being made by your current plan and compare it to others to make sure it still meets your needs. Jeani specializes in the MMAP Program (Medicare/ Medicaid Assistance Program).

One quick reminder – don’t forget to change your clocks back Sunday, Nov. 3.

I mentioned in last week’s column how much the Munising Moose Lodge Country Music Show was enjoyed by those attending. I forgot to mention the most important part. Once again we sincerely thank the local businesses for purchasing tickets and ads making this “free” for all those who attended.

You certainly don’t see that happen much anymore. Especially with the economy being hit. If you see any of the local businesses/ owners, let them know how much it was enjoyed. Contact the Center for a list of those involved.

With the holidays fast approaching, it is sometimes the most difficult of times if you have lost a loved one.

That is why you are invited to a “free” evening workshop, on Nov. 4, from 6-8 p.m. It will be held at the new Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital – Atrium. The evening will consist of a brief candlelight memorial honoring your loved one, panel discussion on coping with grief, refreshments and support.

If you are in need of transportation to and from the event, please contact Judie Zerilli at (906) 450- 9090. For general questions you might have the contact person is Trisha McEvers whose phone number is 341-3420. She is asking you call on either Tuesday or Thursday.

If you are looking for an electric bed I have been contacted by someone wanting to give one away. Call 341-2424 and ask for Dave.

A great big thank you to St. Vincents for the donation of pans for our upcoming bake sale scheduled for Nov. 16.
