North Woods plans event for hospice month

MANISTIQUE – November as National Home Care and Hospice month and North Woods Home Care and Hospice is recognizing the importance of this type of care.

“I certainly think it’s appropriate that we take a few minutes of our day to celebrate the nurses, therapists, aides and other providers who have chosen to use their lives to help infirm, disabled and dying members of their community,” said Lynn MacGregor, administrator at North Woods. “It is a special calling to which very special people dedicate their hearts and lives.”

Home care aims to give the elderly population an opportunity for freedom and quality of life and comprises everything from nursing to physical/occupational/ speech therapies to aides.

“Hospice care provides an excellent opportunity for people to take control of their life limiting illness, allowing them to truly live the rest of their life and pass with dignity,” said Caleb Varoni, assistant administrator and member of North Woods Hospice Interdisciplinary Team.

North Woods will be co-sponsoring the “Bells for Hospice” event on Nov. 1 at Triangle Park. The event, set to take place at noon, will be held in remembrance of hospice patients who’ve passed and in support of their families. The public is invited to attend.
