MARQUETTE – The U.P. Food Exchange is planning a local food summit in each region of the Upper Peninsula.
“Together at the Table: Recipes for a Sustainable Local Food System” will be held:
Nov. 5 – Dee Stadium, Houghton
Nov. 6 – NMU University Center, Marquette
Nov. 7 – LSSU Cisler Center, Sault Ste Marie
The keynote speaker for all three summits is Ken Meter from Crossroads Resource Center. Meter is a food system analyst and president of Crossroads Resource Center in Minneapolis, Minn. He will discuss a recently completed report of the U.P.
Other topics include: understanding community food systems, the U.P. Food Exchange, regional food hub updates, panel discussions on overcoming barriers and results with local speakers, future plans at the MSU U.P. Research and Extension Center, breakout discussions on local topics, and the latest news from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The cost is $15 per person and includes lunch. Limited scholarships are available. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at each location.
