Local arts center planning glass fusing class

MANISTIQUE – The Lake Effect Community Art Center will be offering a glass fusing class on Nov. 16. The class, instructed by glass artist Beth Cox, will take place from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer in Manistique.

The cost for the class, including all materials, is $45 for LECAC members and $50 for nonmembers. It is open to teens and adults.

During the session, participants will learn the ancient art of glass fusing, design, kiln tips, and “do’s and don’ts” of fusing.

At the end of class, items will be taken by Cox to be fired in an off-site kiln and returned at a later date.

Medical care facility celebrates Oct. birthdays

MANISTIQUE – Three residents of the Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility recently celebrated October birthdays. A joint celebration was held and entertainment was provided.

Those celebrating birthdays were: Lois Kane, Hazel Toenneson and Eva Tatrow. They were given a card and handmade lap robe.

The party is hosted by the GFWC – Manistique volunteers.

The November birthday party will be held on Nov. 13 and will honor birthday residents as well as veterans residing at the facility. Entertainment will be provided by Roger Beauchamp.

Women’s Christmas Event planned for Dec. 5

GLADSTONE – The Grace Church Women’s Christmas Event will be held on Dec. 5 at the Grace Church of Gladstone. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., with the program set to begin at 7 p.m., followed by refreshments.

Performing this year’s program is Christian speaker Vonda Skelton.

The event is open to women ages 13 and older. Tickets can be purchased at Grace Church before and after Sunday services beginning in November, at the Grace Church office during normal business hours, through www.gracegladstone.com, at The Morrison Shop in Escanaba, through iTickets.com or by calling (800) 965-9324.

Purchase price is $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
