Club soccer goes one for one on the road

MARQUETTE – Over the weekend, Manistique Club Soccer competed in a JV tournament in Marquette.

In their first game, Manistique competed against Marquette JV1, and as in previous encounters, the club team lost. Final score was 0-3.

Tony Walters and Zach Wheaton were in goal and had a combined 11 saves. There were several shots on goal from Brett Annelin, Joe Block, Jake Burnis, Jen Carlson, Chris Freeman and David Pratt.

In game two, they faced off with Big Bay. After several game delays due to thunder, the club pulled out the 1-0 win.

The lone goal was scored by Darien Nichols. Manistique had 20 shots on goal by Annelin, Block, Burnis, Carlson, Freeman, Pratt, Sam Furman and Cooper Wheaton.

MHSAA.tv to replay U.P. girls tennis finals

EAST LANSING – Highlights of the first MHSAA championships of the 2013-14 school year are now available for on demand viewing at MHSAA.tv – a recap of the Upper Peninsula Girls Tennis Finals on Oct. 2.

Kingsford won its second straight Division 1 crown, and Ishpeming Westwood was the Division 2 champion for the fifth straight year.

Lady Black Bears continue to seek win

MUNISING – On the road in Munising Monday night, the Lady Bears continued to put forth a strong effort, but were still unable to secure a win.

The Bears came out strong in the first match taking the first set 25-18. From there they lost their momentum, dropping the remaining games (22-25, 17-25, 14-25).

The Bears will host North Central at home tonight.
