Co-op warns of phone scam in service area

DAFTER – Cloverland Electric Cooperative is warning members of a recent phone scam.

The co-op was contacted by business owners in the Sault Ste. Marie area who had received bogus calls from a caller demanding payment for electricity bills and threatens the disconnection of service. The caller states he is from Cloverland Electric Cooperative and asks to speak with the business owner or manager to make payment arrangements.

Members are encouraged to call the cooperative at (800) 562-4953 for verification if there is ever any question about the nature of the call or the caller’s identity and to notify local law enforcement if it seems suspicious.

Senior companions to celebrate 30 years

MANISTIQUE – The Menominee/ Delta/ Schoolcraft Senior Companions will be celebrating 30 years of programming on Oct. 24 with a recognition luncheon at the Terrace Bay Inn and Suites in Escanaba.

An award presentation will take place and senior companions will be recognized for service.
