William H. Tennyson
He was born March 27, 1925, in Calspar, Mich., the son of William and Leola (Gilroy) Tennyson and attended Manistique area schools.
During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy seeing duty aboard the U.S.S. Porter Field in the pacific theatre.
On Nov. 30, 1946, he married the former Eleanor A. Balla in Gould City, Mich. They made their home and raised their family in Gulliver. Eleanor preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2008.
Bill was employed as a shovel operator at the Inland Lime and Stone Company in Gulliver for 42 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manistique, Gulliver Lions Club, Schoolcraft County V.F.W, Manistique Elks Lodge and Odd Fellows. He served as a District Director for the Lions Club and also served for several years on the Mueller Township School Board and as a Schoolcraft County Commissioner. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and bowling. Bill is survived by his daughter, Billie Jean Lee of Kalamazoo; sons, Michael (Cynthia) Tennyson and Tony (Cheryl) Tennyson, both of Gulliver; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert (Bonnie) Tennyson of Shreveport, La.; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michael Lee; brother, James Tennyson; and sister, Betty Lee-Zook.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with Reverend Jay Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
