Area Foster Grandparents kick off fundraiser

MANISTIQUE – Foster Grandparents from Delta, Menominee and Schoolcraft counties are currently soliciting funds from the public by passing out smiley faces expressing the theme, “Catch a Winning Smile for Foster Grandparents”.

Foster Grandparents work with children in local schools and other established volunteer work stations. They assist children needing extra help with school work and life skills.

Manistique has four Foster Grandparents working at Emerald Elementary.

The schools and work stations will also hold mini-fundraisers to show support of the program and its Foster Grandparents.

The “Fundraiser Rally Day” will be held Nov. 2 at the Willow Creek Professional Building in Escanaba, and current funds will be counted.

Final fundraising results will be recognized at the Foster Grandparent’s Christmas Party Dec. 4 at the Terrace Bay Inn, in Escanaba.

Donations contributed to the Foster Grandparent Foundation are invested and the income earned on that investment is returned annually in the form of grants to the Menominee-Delta- Schoolcraft Foster Grandparent Program. The grant award given to the organization last year totaled $15,300.
