Muriel K. Hamiel Muriel K. Hamiel MANISTIQUE – Muriel Katherine (Louis) Hamiel of Manistique, Mich., went to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. Muriel passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice of Charlotte, N.C.

Muriel was born March 7, 1929, in Gladstone, Mich. to Katherine Edna (Kauthen) and Sylvester Louis. Her childhood years were spent in Garden, Mich. Muriel was a graduate of Manistique High School. She married Elmer O. “Pete” Hamiel in 1954 and they lived in the home he built in Manistique.

Muriel was a dedicated and loving homemaker, taking care of her husband and three children. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. She was also a member of the St. Francis Ladies Circle and the VFW Post 4420 Ladies Auxiliary. Muriel was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards at the Manistique Senior Center.

She is survived by her three children: Charles (Nancy) Hamiel of Stow, Ohio, Cindi (John) Godsey of Eagle River, Ark., and Carla (Chris) Daly of Charlotte; four grandchildren, John, Andrew, and Katherine Daly, and Maggie Godsey; three brothers, Melvin (Flora) Louis of Redford, Mich., Carl (Jean) Louis of Thompson, Mich. and Myron (Janet) Louis of St. Peters, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Muriel was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elmer “Pete” Hamiel and her son Kenneth; three sisters, Margaret Louis, Dorothy Robere and Paulina Brown; and two brothers, Robert and John Louis.

They will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 210 Lake St., Manistique. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Glenn Theoret officiating. A light lunch will be served after the Mass.

Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northwoods Home Healthcare and Hospice of Manistique.
