Center offers local care

Addiction, mental treatment available

MANISTIQUE – Great Lakes Recovery Centers is a non-profit organization offering personalized recovery services in 11 Upper Peninsula communities, including Manistique.

At GLRC’s Manistique Outpatient Services, located at 601 E. Lakeshore Drive in Manistique, treatment is provided for substance abuse disorders, as well as common mental health disorders that often coincide with addiction.

“Grief, anger, stress, depression, anxiety, trouble in relationships; these are the types of difficulties that can lead a person to turn to drugs or alcohol in order to cope,” said Greg Toutant, GLRC executive director. “It is our job, as treatment providers, to help people find a healthier way to cope and to remind everybody that these are things that we all struggle with. We as a community need to work toward ending the stigma associated with seeking help.”

Trained GLRC professionals are available to see clients in Manistique and can offer mental health and substance abuse assessments and counseling. They are able to accept many forms of public (including Medicare) and private (including Blue Cross Blue Shield) insurances and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

“Treatment works,” explained Toutant. “We, at GLRC, just want to make sure the people know that we are here for them when they need us.”
