Illness results in Bears’ shortfall

Team takes loss as players recover

COOKS – With over half of their squad under the weather, the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears’ varsity volleyball team was able to finish their home triangular meet Tuesday night, splitting 1-1.

In the first game of the night, the Bears went up against the Mid Peninsula Wolverines.

After losing the first set 8-25, the team rallied together to pull off the win, taking the remaining three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-14).

The Bears were able to take that momentum with them further into the first set against Rapid River in game two. The team rallied together for the 25-16 victory.

Unfortunately, the squad tired early in the remaining sets and were unable to continue their victory streak. The Rockets dominated to take the match 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17).

The Bears’ coaching staff stated had they not been under the weather, the outcome of the final sets could have been different, as they were playing and moving well.

The junior varsity Bears beat Mid Peninsula in the first match and lost a close contest with Rapid River in the second.

Munising will travel to Big Bay tonight with junior varsity games set to start at 6 p.m. Varsity competition will follow.
