Sept. 23 – 27 will be Homecoming Week at Manistique Middle and High School. A week full of events is planned, such as the Powder Puff Football game and Big and Buff Volleyball game.

On Friday, there will be the Homecoming Parade starting at 4:30 p.m. Watch for updated route information in the Pioneer Tribune. After the parade, plan to watch the Emeralds take on the Munising Mustangs at A.F. Hall Stadium. The theme this year is “The Evolution of Dance”.

Colleges visiting the MHS Campus in the next week are Baker College and University of Michigan-Flint on Friday, Sept. 20. On Sept. 24, a representative from Michigan State University will be at MHS during fourth hour.

See Mrs. Anderson in room 224 for information about the Spring Break trip of a lifetime. Five nights in DC and NYC, see the sites, eat the food, and have tons of fun! There will be two parent meetings – Thursday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Oct. 1 – at 3:45 p.m. in room 224. Parents can’t make it? Come get the information and bring the idea home to them.

Turn the Gym Pink will be held on Oct. 2. Please support the JV and varsity volleyball teams as they “Dig for a Cure” at home against Westwood. Please consider purchasing a neon pink “Dig for a Cure” T-shirt to support breast cancer awareness. They are available to order in advance for $12 from any JV/ varsity volleyball player. The deadline to pre-order is Sept. 20. All proceeds raised will be donated locally to Shirley’s Angels – our local breast cancer support and outreach!

Picture retakes in the Middle/ High School are on Oct. 8. You must bring your packet in if you were not happy with the first picture.

Past and present band students/ parents: If you have an instrument that you borrowed from the school sometime in the past, please bring it back as soon as possible so that it can be loaned out to others in the band program. As always, instrument donations are welcomed and appreciated! There is a concert on the schedule for Dec. 11, 2013. Watch this column for more information as the date approaches.

Manistique High School will once again offer the ACT Test on Saturday, Oct. 26. Seniors are encouraged to retake the ACT and do not need to sign up for the writing portion. The cost for the student to take the ACT (no writing) is $36.50. The online registration deadline, without incurring a late fee, is Sept. 27. Students can pick up an ACT online registration booklet from Mr. Rochon in the Guidance Office. Please note: High School Code is 232410.
