Eileen M. Renton

Eileen M. Renton Eileen M. Renton GULLIVER – Eileen M. Renton, 86, passed to her heavenly home on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at her home in Gulliver, Mich., surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 3, 1927, in Dearborn, Mich., the daughter of Clarence and Hazel Bohl.

On Nov. 30, 1946, the former Eileen M. Bohl married Edwin J. Renton in Belleville, Mich. They made their home in Belleville, where they lived and worked on the family farm, moving to Gulliver in 1969.

Eileen was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her family and friends. She was a devout Christian and member of the First United Methodist Church of Manistique, Mich., where she was very active in the United Methodist Women. She organized, supervised, and worked in the kitchen preparing meals for large crowds on special occasions. In addition, she baked pasties, supervised the Methodist Youth Fellowship, taught Bible School, and assisted with the work of the church in numerous other ways. She was also active in the community, where she served as a Cub Scout Leader, taught 4-H classes, supervised the Rainbow Girls, and volunteered to assist with the many school activities.

She enjoyed life, and especially liked square dancing, playing cards and Scrabble. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, watching and feeding the wild birds, and spending time with her family, friends and pets. She genuinely lived her faith and was a valued friend and confidante to many in her community as well as to her extended family. Her faith in God enabled her to meet unexpected challenges with grace and a spirit of adventure.

Eileen was a willing volunteer and a good listener who forgave easily and could offer wise advice when needed. She was a steadfast care giver with a generous spirit who gave freely of herself whenever there was a need. She provided a strong example of a faith-filled life and will be missed by all who knew her.

Eileen is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Edwin J. Renton; her children, Sherry (Larry) Eddy, Bob (Pat) Renton and Joanne (Wayne) Bjorkman; her grandchildren, Kristi (John) Duff, Max (Sarah) Bjorkman, Travis (Lisa) Bjorkman, Bryan (Mindy) Renton, and Jessie (Kit) Lien; her grandchildren by marriage, Tammy (Brent) Fales, Jackie (Victor) Guthrie, and Stuart (Katie) Eddy; and her 18 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maxine; and greatgrandson, Zephan Bjorkman.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Sept. 9, at First United Methodist Church in Manistique. Funeral services followed at noon, at the church, with Reverend Don E. Bedwell officiating. There was a private committal service after the funeral, followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
