Donald L. Mickelson Donald L. Mickelson MANISTIQUE – Donald L. Mickelson, 72, of 422 Riverdale St., Manistique, Mich., died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.

He was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Manistique, the son of Ewald “Peewee” and Barbara (Bosanic) Mickelson and attended Manistique area schools. He was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1959.

On June 15, 1963, he married the former Patricia A. Schneider at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in Manistique.

Over the years, Don was employed as a clerk/assistant manager of several Manistique grocery stores including John’s Market, the A&P Store, Norden’s Foodland and Ken’s Fairway Foods.

He was a member of the Manistique Elks Club, Indian Lake Golf and Country Club and Garden Golf Course. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling and playing cards, throwing horseshoes and spending time at his cabin on Thunder Lake. He was always a great supporter of his grandchildren’s extra curricular activities and was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed watching daily episodes of “The Price is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune”.

Don is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Mickelson of Manistique; sons, Daniel L. Mickelson of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Douglas (Kristie) Mickelson of Manistique; grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Gunnar and McKenzie; brothers, Robert (Janelle) Mickelson of Cheboygan, Mich. and David (Kathy) Mickelson of Manistique; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A funeral service followed at 5 p.m., at the funeral home, with Celebrant Carole Cooper officiating. Burial will be held in Lakeview Cemetery at Manistique.
