He was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Manistique, the son of Charles W. and Alma M. (Orman) Adkins. He attended Manistique area schools and was a graduate of Manistique High School.
On Oct. 8, 1955, he married the former Karen L. Patz in Manistique.
They lived and raised their family in Manistique.
Chuck was employed at Inland Lime and Stone Company, located in Gulliver, Mich., for a total of 34 years as a heavy equipment operator. He had also worked surveying, tree trimming and plowing snow.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manistique where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He enjoyed being “Den Mother” for the local Cub Scout Webelos group.
His hobbies included restoring tractors, hunting, camping, traveling and going to country music events.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Karen L. Adkins of Manistique; daughters, Debra (David) Barkley of Kingston, Tenn., Kim (Doug) Jones of Manistique, Linda (David) Chandanais of Knoxville, Tenn., and Cheryl (Daniel) Bennett of Kingsford, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Guy Adkins of Hastings, Mich.; sisters, Nina Stapley of Globe, Ariz., and Susan (Lowell) Engle of Indianapolis, Ind.; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Adkins, Jr.; granddaughter, Tamera Adkins; brothers, Wayne, Milford, Ronald and Robert; and his sisters, Joyce and Barbara.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, inside the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., inside the funeral home, with Chuck’s son-in-law, Pastor David Barkley officiating.
