Lola M. Steele
She was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Gulliver, Mich., the daughter of Ferdinand “Bud” and Edna (Palmer) Frenette. She attended grade school in Gulliver and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1944.
On Dec. 4, 1945, the former Lola M. Frenette married Ray Clare Steele in Manistique. They lived in Manistique and also in Ocala, Fla., for 18 years following Clare’s retirement. Clare preceded her in death on July 31, 2007.
Lola was a member of the Manistique Bible Church. In her earlier years, she had been a Sunday School Teacher and AWANA leader at Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and making ceramics.
Lola is survived by her daughter,
Laurie Steele of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Douglas (Esther) Steele of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; sister, Clara Goudreau of Manistique; sister-in-law, Guerda Frenette of Manistique; caregivers, Tim and Ellen McKeever of Gulliver; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Lamirand, Jewel Hall and Carol Frenette; along with her brothers, Charles, Ralph, Ronald and Lindsley Frenette.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at Manistique Bible Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Dave Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
