UPGA event a go, local to get jacket

MANISTIQUE – The Indian Lake Golf Club will host the annual Upper Peninsula Golf Association tournament beginning Aug. 8. The event will take place over the course of four days and feature some of the Upper Peninsula’s best golfers.

Approximately 100 golfers from golf courses across the U.P. have registered to play in the event. Tee times are slated to begin Thursday morning at 9 a.m. with flight assignments calculated at the end of Friday’s play.

The traditional “Fitting of the jacket” will serve as the highlight of the event, with one UPGA member receiving the honor for contributions made to U.P. golf. This year’s award winner is Glenn Rasmussen, long time course superintendant for the Indian Lake Golf Club.

The jacket will be presented by club co-managers Rob Ryan and Bob Sands on Friday evening.

On Sunday, the four-day event will close with the crowning of the 2013 Upper Peninsula Golf Champion.
