Selections announced for MPC softball team

NEGAUNEE – All-league selections for the Mid-Peninsula Conference spring season were recently announced.

First team: Ashley Anderson and Rosalie Anderson, Negaunee; Katie Rankinen, Westwood, Allie Nagy, Manistique; Bailey Grayvold and Rachel Connery, Norway; Caitlin Corvela and Sinead Corvela, Ishpeming.

Second team: Taylor Ring, Negaunee; Shana Caliguri and Hannah Salmi, Westwood; Sydney Chartier, Ashley Menominee and Brianne Richey, Manistique; Ashley Zannon, Norway; Emily Myers, Ishpeming.

Paul Bunyan Triathlon scheduled for Aug. 17

MANISTIQUE – There is still time to register for the City of Manistique Paul Bunyan Triathlon. The event is scheduled to be held on Aug. 17.

The race includes a 400 yard swim in Quarry Lake, 16 mile bike ride and 5K run. The event will start and finish at Central Park in Manistique.

Competitors may chose whether to participate as an individual or as part of a team. There is a minimum age of 16 for the swim portion of the event.

Golf scramble set for Folkfest fundraiser

MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Chamber of Commerce will hold a four-person scramble at Indian Lake Golf and Country Club on Aug. 16. The affair is a fundraiser for the 2014 Folkfest.

The 18-hole event will feature a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided for participants at noon.

Golfers will also have an opportunity to win a $5,000 hole-in-one prize, along with a chance to win $1,000 on the raffle board.

The entry fee is $50 per person or $200 a team.

Preregistration is required by Aug. 9 and can be done by contacting the Chamber of Commerce at 341-5010 or Malloy Insurance at 341-6996.

Rental carts are available by contacting the course directly at 341- 5600.
