Betty L. Anderson
GERMFASK – Betty L. Anderson, 78, of 8155 Pine St., Germfask, Mich., died on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, Mich.
Betty was born on Jan. 11, 1935, and grew up in Dearborn, Mich. She graduated from the University of Detroit and taught for 36 years in elementary schools in Dearborn.
Betty, along with her mother and stepfather, Mary Ann and George Felic, bought cabins in Grand Marais over 50 years ago. Betty and her dogs spent many summers in Grand Marais.
In 2000, she moved to Germfask and built a house there. Betty was an animal lover and generous supporter of animal welfare groups, most notably the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter in Manistique.
Betty was an early member of the American Federation of Teachers and supporter of unions. She was a liberal and an environmentalist and supported many environmental and progressive organizations. In both Grand Marais and Germfask, Betty was a caregiver and companion of several people. Betty’s close companion, Gert Boyd of Germfask, died in 2010.
In accordance with Betty’s wishes, Betty will be buried in the Germfask Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. We will gather and say goodbye to Betty.
