Alfred Swanson Alfred Swanson GARDEN – Alfred “Buck” Swanson, 84, of 13415 8th Road, Garden (Fayette), Mich., passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2013, at his home in Fairbanks Township, surrounded by his loving family.

Buck was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Iron Mountain, Mich., the son of Alfred and Christine (Mathey) Swanson. He attended school in Fayette and was a graduate of Garden High School. He furthered his education at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich.

On April 10, 1948, he married the former Eleanor “Bell” LaBelle in the Garden Congregational Church.

Buck was a member of the Fayette Congregational Church.

He loved working with his hands and was self-employed as a finishing carpenter. Buck was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as gardening and playing cards. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Buck is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bell Swanson of Fayette; children, Brenda (Steve) Tibbetts of Garden, Rhonda (Ed) Kulis of Flushing, Mich., Alfred William (Zandra) Swanson of Garden, and William (Lori) Swanson of Flint, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; and one greatgreat grandchild on the way. He is further survived by his sister, Theodora Bouchard of Manistique, Mich.; and his brother, Oliver Swanson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Ann Swanson; and his brothers, Henry and Eugene Swanson.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 5, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Garden.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Garden Congregational Church in Garden with Pastor Lon Hider and Pastor Darrel Pizzala officiating.

Burial will be held in New Garden Cemetery at Garden Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Fayette Congregational Church, c/o Lyndell Farley, 2580 II Road, Garden, MI 49835.

Buck’s Family wishes to extend a special thank you to his grandchildren, A.J., Shannon and Melissa for the wonderful loving care they gave grandpa, and also to Vicky Dalgord and Anna LaButte for their special care given to Buck during this time.
