Maddox to serve as district court magistrate

David Maddox David Maddox MANISTIQUE – Local resident David Maddox was recently sworn in by 93rd District Court Judge Mark Luoma as district court magistrate. Maddox was appointed to the position by Luoma and confirmed by the Schoolcraft County Board of Commissioners earlier this year.

Maddox will replace Belinda Cole, who has served in that role for over 28 years.

“I am very confident in David as we make this transition, and his knowledge and experience will be an asset to our court,” said Luoma. “I am also very grateful to Belinda Cole for her many years of service to this community. She has done a remarkable job as magistrate and I appreciate her help in making this transition. Her dedication and knowledge will be missed but she has done and will continue to do an excellent job in preparing David for this role.”

Cole officially retires on Sept. 4. Maddox had previously worked for the Schoolcraft County Sheriff Department for 13 years.
