U.P. Book Tour event to stop at public library

MANISTIQUE – Manistique School and Public Library is hosting a U.P. Book Tour event on Aug. 14. The event will take place from 1-3 p.m. in the library.

Featured writers include Elinor Benedict, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Amber Edmondson, Phillip Sterling and Ron Riekki. A book sale and signing opportunity will follow the presentation/panel discussion.

First United Methodist to hold Aug. pasty sale

MANISTIQUE – The women of Manistique First United Methodist Church will hold a monthly pasty sale Aug. 14 and 15. The sale will take place at the church, 190 N. Cedar St.

Pasties are made with rutabaga and cost $3.50 each.

Supplies are limited so early orders are suggested. Call 341-6662 to place orders or for more information.

‘Finn Fun Day’ Aug. 24 in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE – The fourth Finn Fun Day will take place on Aug. 24 at the Negaunee Township Hall in Negaunee Township. Finn Fun Day is a one-day mini Finn Fest sponsored by the League of Finnish-American Societies U.P. Chapter and Finlandia Foundation affiliate.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m., with the day’s activities including: music, dancing, presentations by a teacher of Finnish and a genealogist, special activities for children, a marketplace, a white elephant sale, and a “himmeli” craft demonstration.

Coffee, “pulla” (cardamom coffee bread) and “juustoa” (Finnish cheese), as well as pasties and beverages, will be available throughout the day.
