Airport receives funding

WASHINGTON – A $902,500 federal grant will fund runway, taxiway and apron improvements at Delta County Airport near Escanaba. Announcement of the funding was made recently by Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.

“Funding for these improvements means safer and more efficient air travel for travelers to and from the Escanaba region, and that’s good news for local residents and the local economy,” Levin said.

The Federal Aviation Administration grant will help pay for replacement and widening of existing pavement on one of the airport’s two runways; rehabilitation of commercial and general aviation aprons; and rehabilitation of faded markings to aid aircraft movement and improve safety.

“Making sure passengers are able to travel to and from the Delta County area safely is vital to the region’s economy,” said Senator Stabenow. “I am pleased this funding will support critical improvements.”
