Delta geocachers will host Aug. 7 meeting

ESCANABA – The Delta Area Geocachers will hold its monthly “Meet and Greet” on Aug. 7. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. int the Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park building (behind the horticultural building) at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.

A basic first aid presentation will be given by the group’s EMT. Information about poisonous plants, as well as what to do if injured during geocaching.

Sons of union vets to host bi-monthly meet

MARQUETTE – The Albert and James Lyon Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold their bi-monthly camp meeting on Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. in the Board Room on the basement level of the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans, 425 Fisher Street, Marquette.

The program portion of the meeting will be a presentation by member Dr. James Strain, a professor in the music department at Northern Michigan University.

US-41 resurfacing to require lane closures

MARQUETTE COUNTY – The Michigan Department of Transportation started resurfacing US-41 from the Marquette/Alger county line north to County Road 456 on Monday.

This work will require lane closures with traffic shifts. Estimated completion date is Aug. 28
