Fair to return Friday

Various events lined up over 2-day event

MANISTIQUE – Looking for something to do this weekend? Look no further than the Schoolcraft County Fair. According to organizers, this year’s fair has plenty of activities to choose from, including a couple of new additions.

The fair kicks off on Friday with the Miss Schoolcraft County Pageant at 4 p.m. The Junior Miss Schoolcraft County and Little Miss/Little Prince pageants will follow.

On Saturday, a “Dance It Up” performance will open the day’s events at 10:30 a.m. A horse speed show, previously set for 10 a.m., has been canceled due to lack of participation.

A presentation by the Upper Michigan Raptor Rehabilitation and Wildlife Center is set for 11 a.m., and a Seney Wildlife Refuge presentation will take place at noon and 1 p.m.

Kids can take part in two “Sharpie Science/Make and Take” craft activities at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Each participant will have the opportunity to decorate their own t-shirt or tote bag and take it home, free of charge.

Beginning at 3 p.m., a “Battle of the Bands” contest begins. There will be three bands performing at the event, including “Lost Cause” and “Domestic Babbage”.

A third band is to be determined. The bands will play until 9 p.m. Saturday night.

A full bar, provided by the VFW, along with other exhibits and food, arts and craft vendors, will be available throughout the day.

Various bounce houses and slides will be available for children, along with horse drawn wagon rides and a “Spook House”.

A silent auction and raffle will also take place Saturday.
