CNA training to begin at Bay College M-TEC

ESCANABA – M-TEC at Bay College is offering a 120-hour Nurse Aide training starting Aug. 5. The Certified Nursing Assistant training is designed to provide people an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

After successfully completing the course, the graduate will qualify to take the state competency evaluation test for nursing assistants.

The training consists of 120 total hours: 40 hours of classroom lecture, 40 hours laboratory training, and 40 hours of clinical training at a local long term care facility. Classroom and laboratory training takes place at the M-TEC at Bay College in Escanaba.

Certified Nurse Aides may be eligible for reimbursement for the cost of their training and testing fees. Reimbursement is based on successful completion of the competency evaluation and if hired to work at a Medicaid certified nursing facility within twelve months of the completion of testing.

Students are required to pass a criminal background check and all 120 hours of the training are mandatory. Class size is limited to 22 students and registrations will be taken until all spots are filled.

MANISTIQUE – Manistique School and Public Library will be closed for cleaning today and Aug. 2. Regular summer hours will resume Aug. 5.
