Mary A. Lester

Mary A. Lester Mary A. Lester GULLIVER - Mary Lester, 55, of 850N County Road 432, Gulliver, Mich., died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.

She was born June 24, 1958, in Manistique, the daughter Eugene and Viola (Miller) Neadow and was raised in the Cooks, Mich., area. She attended Big Bay de Noc School.

Mary was employed as a Housing Residential Services Specialist for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians throughout the Upper Peninsula.

She was a member of the Sault Tribe who enjoyed attending Tribal Pow Wows and doing Native American crafts. She also enjoyed quilting, reading and spoiling her grandchildren. She also wrote children’s books.

Mary is survived by her sons, William (Jennifer) Neadow of Gulliver and Jarrod (Muge) Cole Okinawa, Japan; her soul mate, Edward Goudreau of Gulliver; brother, Eugene “Chum” Neadow, Jr. of Cooks; sisters, Geraldine (Nicholas) Stoken of Garden, Mich., Jean (Patrick) Cournaya of Gulliver, Denise (Frank) Chase of Manistique, Betty Neadow of Munising, Mich., Viola Neadow of Gulliver; grandchildren, Aydin Cole, Savannah Rose Neadow and Carter Neadow; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A small tribal service will be conducted by the Bahweting Singers.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks with Reverend Jay Martin officiating. A funeral luncheon will follow at the Tribal Center in Manistique.
