Richard D. Scheall
GOULD CITY – Richard D. Scheall, 72, of W19210 U.S. Highway 2, Gould City, Mich., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.
He was born July 19, 1940, in Maple Ridge, Mich., the son of Leon and Sylvia (Dobler) Scheall and moved to Standish, Mich., as a child. He was a graduate of Standish High School.
On May 14, 1960, he married the former Phyllis K. Schmidt in Standish and they made their home and raised their family there.
Richard was employed at the General Motors Powertrain factory in Bay City, Mich., until his retirement. Fourteen years ago he started seasonally moving to Gould City, where he owned and operated Scheall’s Motel.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Standish, Trapper’s Association in Kinross, Mich. and United Auto Workers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and being outdoors. He also enjoyed building houses, restoring cars and farm tractors, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife, Phyllis K. Scheall of Gould City; sons, Dale (Dawn) Scheall of Prescott, Mich. and Dean (Sally) Scheall of Standish; grandchildren, Brittney (Zac), Marguerite, Cherie and Jason Scheall; great-grandchild, Kylie Maloney; brothers, Ronnie (Linda) Scheall of Bay City and Leon Scheall, Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sylvia Judy and Marguerite Jeffrey.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Scheall’s Motel in Gould City.
