Missoula theatre group set to return July 22

Area children needed for auditions, tech

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Area Kiwanis Club will be hosting the Missoula Children’s Theatre on July 22. The theatre group, with the help of local children, will put on a production of “The Tortoise versus the Hare” on July 27.

Now in its eighth year visiting Manistique, the international troupe, consisting of two Missoula staff members, brings a “little red truck” full of sets, lights, costumes, props, make-up, and everything else needed to put on their show.

Beginning July 22, the MCT will hold auditions for students in grades 1-12. Up to 60 children will be chosen to participate in the play. Auditions will take place in the Manistique First Baptist Church at 1 p.m.

Students are asked to arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. with auditions ending at 3 p.m. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a first rehearsal until 5 p.m. Rehearsals will take place every day until July 27, when two performances will be held for the public.

The performances will take place at 3 and 7 p.m. and tickets, good for both performances, are $5 per person.

The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, using money from its Father Daughter Dinner Dance and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and CUPPAD.

All children of Schoolcraft County residents, as well as the Garden, may audition. MCT will also be looking for several students ages 10 and up to serve as assistant directors and carry out technical duties during the performances.
