Man arrested after hostage situation in Flat Rock
FLAT ROCK – A 62-yearold Flat Rock man is in custody Tuesday after police successfully ended a hostage situation that began Tuesday afternoon. A Michigan State Police Emergency Support team, including a negotiator, were among the law enforcement personnel used to free the man’s wife.
According to a press release from the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun holding his wife hostage at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arriving at the residence, located at County Road 415 in Flat Rock, a perimeter was set up around the residence and assistance was called in.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were able to get the female hostage safely out of the residence, the release states. At 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the hostage negotiator was able to talk the suspect out of the house without further incident.
According to the release, the suspect was taken into custody and remains lodged at the Delta County Jail.
Authorized charges against him include: unlawful imprisonment, a 15-year felony and assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony. There is currently no bond set and his name is being held pending his arraignment.
The victim, the 64-year-old wife of the suspect sustained no physical injuries.
During the armed standoff, a 64-year-old man was arrested for obstruction.
Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Department were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police ES Team and Hostage Negotiator, Gladstone Public Safety, Escanaba Public Safety, Rampart EMS, and Escanaba Township Fire Department.
