Conservation district to hold forest landowner meeting
MANISTIQUE – The Delta and Schoolcraft Conservation districts will hold an information meeting for private forest landowners on July 16.
The meeting will explain a new program recently adopted as part of a nine-bill package signed by the Gov. Rick Snyder.
Private forest landowners are now eligible to receive a property tax incentive as part of the Qualified Forest Property program.
Landowners who enroll will get a 16 mill property tax exemption and have the taxable value of the property capped.
Ownership must be at least 20 acres and not more than 640 acres. To qualify, landowners are required to have a forest management plan written for the property.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, located at 319 Walnut St. in Manistique.
Any forested landowners who can’t attend the meeting and are interested should contact Rory Mattson at (906) 280-6947.
