Community concert series continues

MANISTIQUE – The Community Concert Committee’s summer chamber music series continues on July 7. The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian.

The program features a string sextet group from the Ann Arbor area playing a program entitled “Romantic Strings.” Music director of the series, Paul Lundin, is joined by some musicians who may be familiar to some. Violinist Karen Donato, violist Joseph Deller and cellists Daniel Thomas and Diane Winder are joined by violist Janine Bradbury.

The evening starts with a work by Swiss composer Joachim Raff. Raff was a contemporary of Johannes Brahms, was very prolific, and in his time, even more popular than Brahms.

The second half of the program is “Transfigured Night” by Arnold Schonberg. This is a programmatic work following a poem by Richard Dehmel.

Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door prior to the performance. Those under 18 will be admitted free.

Methodist women set monthly pasty sale

MANISTIQUE – The women of Manistique First United Methodist Church will hold a monthly pasty sale July 10 and 11, at the church, 190 N. Cedar St. Pasties will now be made with rutabagas and cost $3.50 each.

Supplies are limited, so early orders are suggested. Call 341- 6662 for more information.

MANISTIQUE – The monthly Caregiver Support Group, offered to anyone involved with the care giving of someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia, will meet at the Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility on July 16 at 7 p.m.
